Sciatica: What It Is, Why It Happens, and What Your Body Needs to Heal

Introduction: Why I’m Writing This Article

I hear about sciatica all the time.

In conversations with clients, in doctors’ offices, and in chiropractic clinics, the focus is almost always the same:

πŸ‘‰ A herniated disc
πŸ‘‰ A pinched nerve
πŸ‘‰ A structural problem

And while those things may be real, they are not the full story.

Because there is something else that plays a major role:

Inflammation.

What’s even more concerning is this:

Very few people are talking about how to measure inflammation in a simple way. Even fewer are talking about omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols.

That is why I am writing this article.

As a clinical nutritionist and someone who studies omega balance, I can tell you this:

There is a gap in understanding.

And once that gap is closed, everything changes.

What Is Sciatica?

Sciatica is pain that travels along the Sciatic nerve.

This nerve runs from your lower back, through your hips, and down your leg.

Symptoms may include:

  • Sharp or burning pain
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Weakness
  • Pain when sitting

But here is the key:

Sciatica is not the problem. It is a symptom.

The Structural Story, And What It Misses

Most people are told their sciatica is caused by:

  • A herniated disc
  • Spinal narrowing
  • Muscle pressure

These can be true.

But they do not explain everything.

Because:
πŸ‘‰ Some people have these issues and no pain
πŸ‘‰ Others have pain with very little damage

So, what makes the difference?

The Missing Link: Inflammation

Inflammation can increase pain.

When inflammation is high:
πŸ‘‰ Nerves become more sensitive
πŸ‘‰ Swelling increases pressure
πŸ‘‰ Healing slows down

This means the same condition can feel very different.

Inflammation changes pain.

A Real Conversation That Opened the Door

I was speaking with one of my clients, Elizabeth.

Many of my female clients are taking action. They:
πŸ‘‰ Take the BalanceTest
πŸ‘‰ Learn their omega balance
πŸ‘‰ Use BalanceOil+

But their families are not.

I told her, that’s concerning.

Because it shows they don’t fully understand how important this is.

She asked:

β€œDo you think this helps sciatica?”

I said:

β€œYes, 100%.”

But I also said:

There are no guarantees.

However:
πŸ‘‰ Inflammation plays a role
πŸ‘‰ Omega imbalance drives inflammation

Omega Balance and Inflammation

Omega-6 and omega-3 fats must be balanced.

In the past:
πŸ‘‰ About 1:1

Today:
πŸ‘‰ 10:1 to 20:1

This increases inflammation [5].

The Role of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3s help reduce inflammation.

They may:
πŸ‘‰ Lower inflammatory signals [1]
πŸ‘‰ Support nerve health [2]
πŸ‘‰ Help reduce pain [3]

Cell Membrane Health Matters

Every cell has a membrane.

When it is flexible:
πŸ‘‰ Cells work better

Omega-3s support this.

Why Most Omega-3 Supplements Don’t Work

Many:
❌ Oxidize
❌ Are poorly absorbed
❌ Do not change blood levels

No change in blood = no change in body.

The Role of Polyphenols

Polyphenols:
πŸ‘‰ Protect omega-3s
πŸ‘‰ Improve delivery

A Measurable Solution

The BalanceTest measures your levels.

You can:
βœ”οΈ Track progress
βœ”οΈ Confirm results

Correcting the Problem

BalanceOil+ combines omega-3s and polyphenols.

This helps:
βœ”οΈ Improve balance
βœ”οΈ Reduce inflammation

Clinical Case Study 1: Strong Responder

Patient

Female, 50s, 6 months sciatica

Baseline

  • Ratio: 13.2:1

After 120 Days

  • Ratio: 3.9:1

Outcome

βœ”οΈ Less pain
βœ”οΈ Better movement
βœ”οΈ Less nerve symptoms

Clinical Case Study 2: Partial Responder

Patient

Male, 60s, 2+ years sciatica

Baseline

  • Ratio: 11.8:1

After 120 Days

  • Ratio: 5.8:1

Outcome

βœ”οΈ Some improvement
❌ Symptoms remained

What These Cases Show

πŸ‘‰ Inflammation matters
πŸ‘‰ Structure still matters
πŸ‘‰ Results vary

Doctor-Focused Summary

For healthcare providers:

Sciatica is not just structural.

Research shows:
πŸ‘‰ Omega-3s reduce inflammation [1]
πŸ‘‰ Omega balance matters [5]
πŸ‘‰ Cell membranes affect nerve function [2]

What is missing:

  • Measurement
  • Personalization
  • Tracking

The BalanceTest provides this.

Combined with BalanceOil+, this approach supports measurable care.

Final Thoughts

Sciatica is:
βœ”οΈ Structural
βœ”οΈ Inflammatory
βœ”οΈ Cellular

All three matter.
