Tito Jackson died from a heart attack, and because he was a friend, I was inspired to write this article because I sincerely feel that he would have benefited from ensuring he was not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids. In this article I explain the connection between not being deficient in omega-3s and reduced risk of heart attack.
As a nutritionist and metabolic health expert, I often get asked whether specific supplements should be part of a patient’s or client’s regimen. Unfortunately, for years my answers were often inconclusive due to the lack of solid evidence supporting the effectiveness of many supplements. Then, in 2004, the invention of omega-3 testing came about, and in 2009 it was commercialized. Today, there is a quick and easy way to conduct this test in the privacy of your home. Furthermore, there’s a quality omega-3 supplement that test better than any other. I’ll share more about the test and supplement at the end of this article.
When it comes to heart health, there’s strong evidence supporting the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. Both supplementing with a high-quality omega-3 and consuming foods rich in these essential fats have been shown to reduce the risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular events. Omega-3s, particularly EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), are known to lower inflammation, decrease triglyceride levels, and improve overall heart health. However, while the benefits of omega-3s are well-established, questions remain about the most effective formulations, dosing, and the role of different types of omega-3s in reducing cardiovascular risk.
Omega-3s Show Promise in Trial
Two key omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, are primarily found in fish and fish oil, grassfed butter and beef, and in pasture raised eggs. For the last 20 years, the American Heart Association (AHA) has recommended omega-3s from fish or fish oil to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, like heart attacks or strokes, in people with cardiovascular disease (CVD). As a strong supporter of getting omega-3s through nutrition habits, there’s now a supplement that I recommend to everyone, BalanceOil+.
In a recent study about four years ago, a. high quality and regulated omega-3 supplement that was a purified form of EPA, was prescribed to my high-risk cardiovascular patients. This was based on solid evidence of its cardiovascular benefits from the REDUCE-IT trial, which involved over 8,000 participants with high triglycerides and elevated cardiovascular risk. Half of the group was given this omega-3 supplement (2 grams twice a day), while the other half received a placebo (a mineral oil pill). The results were impressive: The omega-3 supplement not only lowered triglyceride levels but significantly reduced heart attacks, strokes, artery stenting procedures, and death.
A broader meta-analysis that included over 10 studies supported these findings, showing that a quality omega-3 fish oil supplements reduced the risk of heart attacks and coronary heart disease-related deaths. The key here, is taking a quality omega-3 supplement, which most that are sold in stores is not “high quality.”
The Importance of Omega-3 Levels and the Omega-6 to Omega-3 Ratio
Research suggests that individuals who maintain adequate levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their red blood cell membranes are less likely to experience cardiovascular disease. Omega-3s play a vital role in reducing inflammation and maintaining heart health, and people who are deficient in these fatty acids are at higher risk for heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends an optimal omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of 5:1 or lower. I’m on the page that recommends 3:1 or lower. Many people today, however, consume diets with significantly higher ratios, often ranging from 20:1 to over 60:1, which can promote inflammation and increase the risk of heart disease. Achieving the proper balance between omega-6 and omega-3 fats is critical for overall heart health.
In February 2024, I was introduced to a company called Zinzino, that is headquartered in Norway. This company offers both an in-home omega-3 test and high-quality omega-3 and polyphenol supplement that is unequalled. I have personally test over a hundred people, and ALL improved their omega-6 to omega-3 ratios inside of just four months. We know this because we tested each person before they began taking BalanceOil+ and again after 120 days.
The Tragic Loss of Celebrities and Leaders to Heart Disease
The recent passing of Tito Jackson, who died of a heart attack, is a sobering reminder of the devastating impact of heart disease. Jackson joins a long list of high-profile individuals who have died from preventable heart conditions, including Elvis Presley, James Gandolfini, and many U.S. presidents like Dwight D. Eisenhower, Calvin Coolidge, and Lyndon Johnson. These individuals, who made significant contributions in their fields, highlight how pervasive and deadly cardiovascular issues can be, even among the famous and powerful.
Despite advancements in medicine, heart attacks, heart failure, and cardiac arrest continue to claim the lives of many. The deaths of these public figures underline the importance of taking heart health seriously and adopting preventative measures.
What Should You Do?
So, what should I tell my patients and clients who ask about omega-3 supplements? Based on the current evidence, I recommend opting for BalanceOil+, which has optimal amounts of more EPA than DHA. In addition, testing for omega-3 levels in the blood can provide useful insight into cardiovascular risk, and striving for a balanced omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is critical. With the BalanceOil+ you can get the BalanceTEST.
In addition to taking the BalanceOil+, I always encourage heart-healthy eating habits, regular exercise, and to adopt other proven lifestyle changes for cardiovascular health. In the meantime, I will continue monitoring the multiple studies and research taking place around the world.
One-Second a Day
Once you receive your BalanceOil+ and BalanceTEST, you first conduct your test, which takes less than 10 minutes. Then, you begin taking the BalanceOil+ daily for four months or 120 days. After the four-month period, you retest to see that the BalanceOil+ is working. When I take the BalanceOil+, I simply fill a shot glass with water, pour in my BalanceOil+, and drink it. It takes one-second to do this, and your consistency guarantees you’ll see your omega-6 to omega-3 ratios improve, which means reduced risk of cardiovascular heart disease
