The Blood Type Diet

What do you think of the Blood Type Diet? Does it work? Is it real?
I have tried dozens of diets over my lifetime and I am thinking about doing the blood type diet. I have a rare blood type and from the little bit I have read about this diet, it makes sense. What do you think of this diet? – Felicia H., Ventura
I believe you are talking about Peter D’Adamo’s book Eat Right 4 Your Type. Although there are many things that I will agree with in his book, there is absolutely no scientific evidence to support his claims.
In D’Adamo’s book he recommends that people who have the blood type A+ lean toward a vegetarian diet, allowing room for fish and chicken. He also suggests that soy and pineapple are extremely beneficial for this blood type.
Regardless of your blood type, vegetables, fruit, non-gmo soy products and fish are healthy for you. In addition, eating these foods will most likely result in weight loss. I do recommend however, that if you are wanting to release fat, I prefer you eat a fruit like pineapple in the day instead of at night.
Consider this fact: My good friend who is type A+ used to eat pineapple at night and when I began working with her, my first recommendation was to stop eating pineapple at night and in less than six weeks she released 20 pounds of fat. She also ate turkey and lean meats, and didn’t consume inflammatory vegetable oil which is recommended by D’Adamo.
I am sure there are many people who will lose weight with the Eat Right 4 Your Type diet, however, the important or missing link is what type of weight are they losing? Is it fat, water or lean muscle tissue? D’Adamo doesn’t take body composition into account and many of his recommendations are questionable when it comes to improved health. Matter of fact, recently while conducting a seminar in Maui, Hawaii, health pioneer and respected author Dr. Dean Ornish had nothing positive to day about this diet.
I have studied diets for quite some time and I have met many people who swear by the Eat Right 4 Your Type. I also know people who swear by the South Beach, Peanut Butter, Atkins’s, Weight Watchers and Lindora diet.
In the end, no matter what diet we are talking about, eating less calories than needed to sustain your current body weight is how you lower your weight. However, the timing of food, amount of protein, carbs and fat you consume do play a major role in energy performance and whether or not you lose muscle or release fat.
